Eid shopping yet to reach peak in Cox's Bazar PDF Print E-mail

People have started crowding the makeshift shops and shopping centers in the sea beach town Cox's Bazar but sales are yet to reach their peak with the Eid festival about two weeks away.
Eid shopping has yet to gain momentum although almost all the roadside makeshift shops and shopping centers have been witnessing huge rush for the last few days.
‘The people, particularly youths, are coming to our shop in a large number but most of them refrain from Eid shopping right now,’ a salesman

at Eden Garden City Market in the town said. ‘The potential buyers are visiting different shops only to choose their latest design dresses and other items. They will take a week more to start Eid shopping,’ he added.
During a visit, this reporter found that people are crowding different shopping centers including  Bara Bazar Shopping Market, Super Market, Eden Garden City, New Market, Sea Queen Market and Kabir Maket.
Selim, a salesman of a shop said people in large number are rushing to different shops. Some traders said panjabi and latest design salwar kamiz- Anarkoli, Borsha, Mitali, Jodha Akbor- are on high demand.
Apart from imported items, local products are also attracting Eid shoppers, a trader told thecoxnews.
Panjabi and fatua with block print and hand works are selling at a prices ranging between Tk 380 and 1,000, he added.
New design handloom cotton and silk saris are selling between Tk 500 and Tk 5,000.
Children dresses and panjabi are selling for Tk 150 to Tk 500 per piece depending on quality. Locally made salwar kamij is selling at Tk 300 to Tk 700.
‘Customers are coming to my outlet only to watch products. They are just taking idea about the prices of dresses,’ said Hasim, an owner of a shop at Sea Queen Market.
Sora Jannat, a college girl, who was visiting different shops, told thecoxnews.com that latest design dresses are yet to arrive in the town market. ‘I will wait for few more days to buy my dresses till the arrival of the latest design clothes in the market,’ she added.
A owner of exclusive garments shop said, ‘We are expecting record sale as Eid this year will be celebrated in a democratic environment. Eid shopping is yet to get a boost in the town. Our sales will jump from next week.’
Asrafa Akter, a shopper found at Bara Bazar Shopping Market said she usually completes Eid shopping in the second week of Ramadan to avoid huge rush.
